Squeezing his hand tighter, he returned his eyes to Steve looking a bit frustrated. If anything, being his 'friend' still meant forgiveness... but it made any hope he had feel like a painful glimmer. Sighing a little, he tugged at the blonde to get him to step closer to him.
"You've always been a better person than me." Always making the right choices, putting the world first. Tony knew he'd be selfish if he had to chose. He would chose keeping Steve safe first and the world be damned. It played into his decision to leave. Fighting wasn't for the right reasons, not anymore. Everything would be poured into how to keep Steve alive and safe instead of saving the world.
Thunking his head against the wall again, he tried to pull his focus back into the moment. "It wasn't as hard as you'd think." He said it with remarkable ease as he stared at the ceiling. "Hell, I felt like an asshole for not missing her much when she stopped coming around. But we both knew it wasn't working... especially when we both realized I had a thing for someone else that came out of left field and beaned me in the head."
They made better friends. Pepper told him to stop staring at Steve's ass and say something. He laughed at her then... maybe he should have taken her seriously. "I couldn't tell you cause well..." He waved his other hand around in wide gesticulation that honestly meant nothing at all. Finally he sighed. "So I'm kind of in love with you and it's kind of killing me." Yep. He'll just... shrink into the wall now.
